Minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average

Students attending the University of Utah must maintain a minimum 2.0 cumulative grade point average (CGPA).

  • Students will be monitored for compliance with this standard at the end of every semester.
  • Freshmen and sophomore students who have attempted less than four semesters at the University of Utah are not required to meet the minimum 2.0 standard.

However, these students do need to comply with University academic standards. Any student placed on suspension by the University Academic Advising Department will not be eligible to receive financial aid.
  • Transfer students are measured by the completion of coursework at the University of Utah, and must have a 2.0 cumulative GPA by the end of their first semester here.

Transfer freshmen and sophomore students with less than four attempted semesters at the University of Utah are exempt from this requirement.
  • Students who receive a CGPA of 0.00 as a result of receiving grades or marks that are not calculated in the University's CGPA are not considered to be in violation of the 2.0 CGPA SAP standard. This includes graduate students who receive grades of "T" for Thesis classes, and have no other graded credits.
